This event will be of particular value for environmental managers, consultants, property developers and regulators - anyone involved in analysis of environmental contaminants.
Our venue for this year's Science Summit will be at BraeBen Golf Course. BraeBen was constructed on redeveloped land on the former Region of Peel's Britannia Landfill Site. The landfill operated from 1980 to 2002 and the golf course was completed in June 2005. It is a 200-acre ecological masterpiece with a gas recovery system which uses captured landfill gas to generate electricity. It has a total generation capacity of 5.5 megawatts which represents enough green electricity to power 5000 homes on a daily basis for 20 years. Additionally, an average of 20,000 cubic metres of leachate is captured and treated annually on-site at the Region's Lakeview Sewage Treatment Plant.
